Klafter Lesser LLP Files Nation’s First Hoverboard Suit – Sues Over Hoverboard Fires

On December 10, 2015, Klafter Lesser LLP, along with co-counsel brought suit on behalf of Michael Brown, whose Swagway hoverboard burst into flames while charging in Mr. Brown’s home. Mr. Brown had bought the hoverboard as a present for his daughter. The case, filed in federal court in Indiana, asserts class action claims against Swagway, LLC and Modell’s Sporting Goods, Inc., which sold Mr. Brown the hoverboard. The suit seeks damages on behalf of Mr. Brown and all other similarly situated. KL partner Seth R. Lesser commented, “We continue to learn of hoverboards that spontaneously burst into flames sometimes causing significant damage. We are thankful that Mr. Brown and his family were not injured by the hoverboard fire, but we are concerned that others might not be so fortunate.”
